Hillsborough School Releases Re-Opening Schedule For Pre-K to Grade 12 Students

Following a district-wide survey, Hillsborough Township Board of Education has released a tiered re-opening schedule which will give students a 4-day in-person instruction option. Details in Dr. Lisa Antunes’ letter below.

Good Afternoon HTPS Community,

Thank you for taking the time to complete the most recent survey regarding school attendance for the remainder of the school year. After consulting with our district physician and the local department of health, I am both pleased and excited to share the next steps in our phase-in, phase-up approach to reopening our schools. District and building-based administrators have been working diligently to ensure that we can accept additional students safely into our schools while maintaining six (6) foot physical distancing. As I am sure you may imagine, the logistics of doing so during COVID are complicated, therefore, please be on the lookout for additional specific information from your building administrator. Furthermore, please be sure to check Genesis for the most up-to-date busing information.

Please read the following start dates carefully as there are differences between schools:

The expectation is that if the in-person option was chosen, your child(ren) will routinely report to school. Students who will be attending school in person 4 days per week will NOT have the option of attending virtually on those days, unless the student is placed on quarantine by the school nurse. Students who are not able to attend school in-person for any other reason will be marked absent.

Students who will be attending kindergarten in-person 2 days per week will NOT have the option of attending virtually on those days, unless the student is placed on quarantine by the school nurse. Students who are not able to attend school in-person for any other reason will be marked absent.

I must re-emphasize that as we phase-in and phase-up the number of students in our buildings, continuing to mitigate any COVID exposure, including activities outside of school and large family gatherings, is essential to ensuring that our schools remain open. We want to decrease the possibility that we might have to close individual classrooms and/or schools subsequent to contact tracing.

Thank you for working with us as we welcome increased numbers of students back to school. As stated previously, please be on the lookout for additional specific information, including information related to lunch distribution, from your building administrator. Do not hesitate to reach out to your building principal with any questions.

Sincerely,
Lisa M. Antunes, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
