Why I Chose TCNJ

When the idea of college first came into my head, it sounded like the perfect time to pack my things and move across the country to a large university. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for a fresh start and a clean slate.

After about a year and a half of college searching, I found myself at a close-knit campus, 40 minutes away from my house, with less than 7,000 undergraduates. And that’s just the way I like it.

The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is located in Ewing, New Jersey in the middle of a suburban neighborhood.

The first time I took a tour, I was drawn in by its colonial brick buildings and tree lined 289 acre campus.

TCNJ has over 50 liberal arts and professional majors, and was established in 1855. Over the past few semesters, I have declared a double major in Communication Studies and Journalism and Professional Writing. I plan to study abroad in the spring of 2020 with an internship in London.

Student rosters of 20 to 30 per class allow for individualized attention that allows me to feel secure in my learning environment and be able to stand on my own two feet, while still being close enough to Hillsborough to come home for a Thursday night dinner.

To be frank, however, there often isn’t a need to come home. TCNJ has cultivated an environment where I feel at home every single day.

When starting to look for the right college, the best fit may be different from what you thought in the first place. What I found was that a community of dedicated students and professors will make any college experience worthwhile.

TCNJ has given me the opportunity to sculpt my future into something realistic, by preparing me with the tools to take the world by storm with grit and tenacity.

College is what you make of it, with the work you put in and the dreams that you dare to dream.
