Somerset County 4-H Fair Returns Again

Somerset County’s 4-H Association will be hosting its annual 4-H Fair from August 7 to August 9. The fair will be open each day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will be located at North Branch Park at 355 Milltown Road in Bridgewater.

The fair is an educational family-friendly event that showcases the work that individual 4-H clubs have done throughout the course of the year, as well as promoting useful skills and community values.

A major aspect of the 4-H fair includes education about the environment and agriculture. Many 4-H clubs center around specific types of animals. At the fair, families will be able to see larger animals such as  horses, alpacas, cows, sheep, and goats as well as small animals such as  rabbits, chickens and dogs. Many of the animal clubs show their animals in competitions throughout the three days of the fair.

Attendees also have the option of trying out the fair’s food tent, which is run by all non-profit organizations. Food options include burgers, kettle corn, funnel cakes, and other “fair” foods. The fair offers a multitude of other activities including magic and shows off non-agricultural 4-H clubs such as robotics and model airplanes. Other organizations in the county set up informational tables throughout the fair as well.

“The 4-H youth program uses a learn-by-doing approach that enables youth in grades K-13 to develop the knowledge, attitude and skills they need to become competent, caring and contributing citizens in their community and the world,” said the Somerset County 4-H website.

The 4-H fair is a great opportunity for both adults and children to get more invested in their community,  and have some wholesome family fun. Be sure to head over next Wednesday through Friday if you have the chance!
