Hillsborough High School Choir Spring Concert

For their final concert of the year on Thursday May 30, Hillsborough High School Choir graced the stage with their angelic voices one last time.

Students sang a combination of classical and contemporary pieces with the occasional joke between songs.

Choral Director Julianna LoBiondo conducted with passion and sent a heartfelt goodbye to seniors at the last concert of their high school career.

The choir is split up into three sub-groups: concert choir, women’s chorale, and mixed choral, which each involve students of all ages.

A highlight from the night was mixed chorale’s “Mangisondele Nkosi Yam,” by Michael Barrett, which turned student voices and movements into a thunderous rainstorm, something that was coincidentally also happening outside. A perfectly timed crash of thunder from the storm outside sent chills throughout the audience.

As a whole, the students had been working on their music since the winter, and have toiled over every note, dynamic marking, and tempo.

Each separate choir meets as a class every day as they workshop their set of songs. Students also have lessons throughout the week as individual voice parts where they work to hone their skills.

As the year comes to a close, HHS choir wraps up another year of making beautiful music, and gears up for everything that next year will bring.
